Loom is a bold, geometric typeface I designed. Taking inspiration from woven paper and fabric, open-ended threads flow into solid lines mimicking the transformation from singular materials into a larger structure. Its best use is for display type.

I wanted to explore Loom’s range showcasing different projects using the typeface. I rendered its name using Adobe Firefly, showing the word “loom” at the stage of weaving and a completed woven piece. In keeping with the weaving theme, I redesigned a book cover, using my typeface as the title text.

I then expanded beyond the idea of woven material and reinterpreted the triple lines in Loom within different situations. I reimagined the South by Southwest (SXSW) logo using Loom and designed a poster for an upcoming event. The woven terminals reminded me of train tracks so I created signage for the London Underground. I also used Loom in an ad campaign for Adidas. Adidas is famously known for its three-line logo. The woven parts of my typeface also have three lines and I felt like the two could pair well together. Skewing the letters gave the Instagram stories a playful feeling.
